An interdisciplinary exploration of the Cuban exile experience, generational trauma, and my own identity dysphoria. Heavily inspired by the work of Ana Mendieta and the life of my 90-year-old Abuelita. The original iteration of this project consisted of a multimedia, installation art piece that remained open for a week in the Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater at Skidmore College. During this week, a compiled interview with my Abuelita and other family members played on loop. The installation also housed a reading of a short play I wrote that explores these themes of history and identity, continuing a conversation between both generations of family, and artistic mediums.
Due to a technical error in filming, I am currently in the process of converting the written work into a video piece, incorporating and expanding upon as many of the original media elements as possible.
